CFB Playoff Update: Then There Were Two
After the 1st round, the Playoffs were exciting & fun to watch. There was great play design, there were great player performances & there was some great coaching going on But after all was said and done, the bottom line is: The Two Most Physical Teams won and are in the Finals.
UMiami 31 – Ole Miss 27 – The biggest factor in the game was The Rebels losing Lacey, their most explosive running back & the best running back in the stadium. Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss was great but needed Lacy. These were 2 evenly matched teams so losing Lacy was critical. The Canes played “Mario Ball” on Offense & controlled the Clock. Malachi Toney is The Canes best weapon & he opened up their Offense during the Shoot Out phase of the game. The only disappointment I had was the No Pass Interference call in the end zone at the end of the game. EVERYONE knew that was PI – the rule used to be the DB had to be looking for the ball. They better straighten that out.
Indiana 56 – Oregon 22 – This was a lesson in Meaningful Stats. The Ducks out gained IU in total offense (Meaningless). But they did not score 25+ points – their yards didn’t yield points. Indiana Scored a Non-Offensive touchdown (Meaningful), Scored +25 (Meaningful) & had +3 Turnover Margin (Most Meaningful). It was great to see a Heisman Trophy winner play like a Heisman Trophy Winner. This is a signature Cignetti Team, unselfish Team Guys – no Divas allowed. Remember, Team Guys win team games. His players like each other & play like it in every phase of the game.
Looking forward to the Championship Game
