Book Review of “Ara” – Biography of Ara Parseghian

A book that I highly recommend prior to the start of your season is “Ara” by Mark Hubbard  A great Biography about a great coach & a great man:  Ara Parseghian.

Ara grew up during the depression, so struggling financially was part of his early life. Football was an area where he was special. He was fortunate to have great mentors that included Paul Brown (father of modern football) Woody Hayes (hired Ara at Miami University) Sid Gilman and Tubby Raymond (Learned the Wing T).

Ara’s Philosophy was “Possession & Position” – #1 Keep the ball but still score and  #2 Always get good Field Position.

Ara literally resurrected the Notre Dame Football Team in his first season. He retired from College Football at 51 yrs old when the Self-imposed Stress & Pressure at Notre Dame became too much for him. Any season without a National Championship was considered a poor season.

I learned a lot about Coach Parseghian from Mike McCoy, his super DT.  Ara took coaching from Game-Changing to Life-Changing – TD

Editor’s Note:  Coach DeMeo included another book review about Ara Parseghian in his recently published, Little Things that Win Big Games, available at Amazon.

One of 50 Book Reviews, “Little Things” includes a book review of Resurrection: The Miracle Season That Saved Notre Dame Football by Jim Dent.
