Quarterback Musts and Pass Route Coaching Points

Quarterback Musts
1. Throw the ball away from defenders not to receivers.
2. Never throw blind – don’t throw to a ghost.
3. Throw on time – develop a sense of anticipation.
4. Target the ball with each throw – head to head throws.
5. Know the protections, launch points, routes, coverage, and reads.
6. Handle the blitz.
7. Understand the high cost of interceptions.
8. When in doubt – don’t -wrap the ball up and run upfield.
Pass Route Coaching Points
1. Out Routes:
a. don’t throw late
b. don’t throw the ball high
c. don’t throw the ball behind the receiver – keep the ball on the outside edge of the plate
2. Inside Routes:
a. target the ball head to head
3. Deep Outside Routes:
a. never lead the receiver inside
b. keep the ball on the boundary
4. Deep Inside Routes
a. never throw short in the middle ofthe field
