Who’s The GOAT?
With the Super Bowl approaching, I was thinking which Quarterback would I take to win this game? I narrowed it down to either Joe Montana or Tom Brady both great. Joe Cool was 4-0 in Super Bowls while Tom Terrific was 7-3. Who would you take & why? Let. me know, I’m curious of your pick, Two great QBs but who’s the GOAT?
Here’s some commonality of these 2 Great Quarterbacks:
- Neither QB won the starting job in College until his Senior Season.
- Neither QB was a legit Heisman Candidate.
- Neither Quarterback was an All American
- Neither QB was a First Round Draft Pick. Joe was a 3rd round pick & Tom a 6th
- Neither QB was an immediate starter -it took Joe a year & a half & Tom an injury to Bledsoe to start & lead the Pats to the Super Bowl.
- Both played for Hall of Fame Coaches who had systems that fit their abilities. Joe had Bill Walsh & his West Coast Offense & Tom had Bill Belichick who had his Shallow Crossing Game.
- Both were let go by the team that they led to Super Bowl Glory. Joe finished his career with the Chiefs & Tom finished his career with the Bucs.
- Both had Hall of Fame Receivers. Joe had arguably the GOAT Wide Receiver, Jerry Rice & Tom had arguably the GOAT Tight End Gronk. Tom also had the great Randy Moss.
- Both Quarterbacks had a great work ethic which lifted their teammates & developed a winning culture.
- Both Quarterbacks were come from behind specialists. No team wanted to face Montana or Brady in the 4th Quarter.
So who’s The GOAT? I would give a very slight edge to Tom Brady because he won more Super Bowls AND he did it with TWO teams. Brady turned a very average Tampa Bay team into a Super Bowl Champion.
That’s my assessment- but The Lesson from both Quarterbacks is “Hard Work Works” – they developed themselves into the two GOATS. But who is your pick & why? Let me know your opinion with a reason. – TD
