The National Championship Game
Monday Night is the National Championship Game – Ohio St. vs Alabama. It should be a great game. Two outstanding, well coached teams. Here are my thoughts on the game.
1. Previous stats don’t matter. How many points these teams averaged per game has little or nothing to do with this game. How many points do these teams score vs their best opponents matters somewhat.
2. The coaching edge goes to Bama – Saban has been here numerous times. However, losing Sarkesian is a distraction. But I give the edge to The Tide.
3. The Quarterback is a key factor. Both Mac Jones & Justin Fields are good – I give the edge to Fields. He is more mobile & has really come on as a leader of the Bucks.
4. I give the edge on defense to Alabama – both defenses are great but Bama’s might be quicker to the ball.
5. Two great RBs – Trey Sermon put on a show vs Clemson but I give the edge to Najee Harris of Alabama. He maybe the most underrated back in the country.
6. Chris Olave is an outstanding receiver & a big play guy BUT Devonta Smith is something really special – the edge goes to The Tide.
7. Finally, the Alabama Offensive Line is tremendous. Mac Jones is rarely even pressured let alone sacked. Plus their run blocking is very physical & with Harris carrying the rock this will be difficult to stop without using the secondary which will leave Devonta Smith single covered = trouble for The Bucks. The O. Line will also allow Saban to control the pace of the game which will be critical in the 4th quarter – TD
