How To Improve The Playoff Selection

After the 2025 debacle, there must be a better approach to the selection process. First, I agree with Kirk Herbstreit’s idea to eliminate the weekly rankings. This would eliminate a lot of confusion.

My idea is to make “Championship Week”  “Play-In Week” , Power Four teams with only one loss are in. Power 4 teams with 2 losses would play each other to settle the selection ON THE FIELD. The left over non Power 4 teams would play each other for the remaining spots.

So in 2025 the selection would look like this:

The top 7 (only 1 loss) would be in (Yellow). The next 6 would play each other for three spots – OU vs JMU, Bama vs BYU & Notre Dame vs Miami. Then the remaining spots would be filled with non Power 4 Teams playing each other.

This plan needs to be refined, but it’s a sensible start.
