Phillip Haywood quite simply is one of the finest football coaches I have ever known. He was the winningest football coach in Kentucky High School History. Phil was the head football coach at Belfry High School for 41 years! He was truly a beloved hero in Belfry and the surrounding area. He won a lot of game & awards at Belfry but more importantly he won a lot of hearts. A man of enormous Faith, he had a positive influence on the countless live he touched. Phil visited me & my staff every spring when I was the Head Coach at The University of Charleston. I looked forward to his visits because I always picked some important tidbit from a Master Coach. Phil didn’t know a lot of Xs &Os but he taught his Xs to outplay his opponents Os. I’ll miss Coach Haywood but The Lord just made His Coaching Staff a lot better.
