Saving College Football Part One

If the NCAA planned to destroy College Football they couldn’t have come up with a better job. The quest for money by prostituting. Coming up with the transfer portal AND the  NIL at the same time without guard rails is destructive. This is a high speed highway to corruption.

Here is some of the problems –

1. Players using the portal for multiple transfers. Some guys have played at 3 & 4 times! Plus players are going into the prior to the end of the season.
2. Tampering by unscrupulous coaches is common and out of control. Coaches are recruiting players from other teams BEFORE the player even enters the portal.
3. NILs are becoming a major aspect of the recruiting process. Players are being lured into the portal with the promise of huge NIL money. Basically creating “free agency” Some teams basically rent a QB for a year.
4.  Even though players are being paid to play, they are still opting out of Bowl Games. This has made the the bowls nothing more than exhibition games. This is the kiss of death to the existing bowls.

So what guard rails can be put in place to stop the downward spiral?

1. A player may only enter the portal once and only AFTER his team’s season is over. The player can transfer more than once but he would have to sit out a year.
2. If a school was guilty of tampering, they would be banned from using the portal for one year per violation.
3. NIL money can only be given out AFTER the season is complete. If a player “opts out” of a bowl game he forfeits that NIL money for that season. An NIL should be viewed as a contract for that season.
4. Bowl money should prorated based on number of “opt outs”

Football was the sport that taught the most values. Commitment, Loyalty, Team, Hard Work, Mental Toughness etc. Emphasizing values will solve many problems — TD
